Sonic ready to stand in for Complexity at IEM Dallas if necessary

The South African player could help out his former teammates at the $250,000 competition in Texas.

Aran "⁠Sonic⁠" Groesbeek could be used as a stand-in for Complexity at IEM Dallas, it has been revealed. The South African is already on location in Texas, and could potentially be brought in as a replacement for Håkon "⁠hallzerk⁠" Fjærli, who is currently suffering from visa issues but could still make it to Texas in time.

This follows a previous report from Dust2.us on May 10, which stated that hallzerk was in danger of missing out on the event in Texas due to visa constraints, citing information provided from Graham "messioso" Pitt, the team's manager.

Sonic is no stranger to the Complexity core, having played with Johnny "⁠JT⁠" Theodosiou and company during their Cloud9 and Extra Salt days throughout 2020-2021. However, the South African ended up taking a step back from competition in October 2021, with his teammates signing with Complexity in early 2022 as the organization sought to return to its North American roots.

Sonic retired from Counter-Strike in April 2022, although he briefly stepped in to play with Nixuh towards the end of 2022. So far, however, the 24-year-old is yet to play a game featured on HLTV in 2023.

IEM Dallas has already had a number of roster woes plague the event. OG, for instance, will be playing in Dallas with Iulian "⁠regali⁠" Harjău in place of Abdul "⁠degster⁠" Gasanov, who was scheduled to take time off following the conclusion of the BLAST.tv Paris Major.

fnatic, meanwhile, were called in as a last-minute replacement for Virtus.pro, who withdrew from IEM Dallas due to their own visa issues. However, even this replacement squad isn't making the journey stateside with their full-strength roster, instead fielding Patrik "⁠f0rest⁠" Lindberg as a stand-in once more for Freddy "⁠KRIMZ⁠" Johansson, who is out for personal reasons.

Complexity have been seeded into Group B for IEM Dallas alongside fellow North American rosters Evil Geniuses and Liquid. The JT-led lineup will begin their tournament campaign with an opening best-of-one fixture against ENCE on Monday at 20:30 .
